Lefroy family displaced after house fire

A family is lucky to have escaped after their home caught on fire in Lefroy.

Innisfil firefighters were called to a home on Ferrier Avenue shortly after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

“The fire started at the back of the residence and spread to the top of the attic,” said Innisfil Fire Chief Brent Thomas.

Two hours later the fire was contained but crews were still actively working to put the fire out, he said.

There are no hydrants in that area and water had to be trucked in.

Thomas said the occupants of the two-storey home and their pets escaped safely.

“There is a lot of smoke in the home so the family will be displaced as it is not safe to go back in,” he said.

Damage is believed to be around $200,000. An investigation into what caused the fire is underway.
