Trailer on Penetanguishene property destroyed by ‘suspicious’ fire

CTV News

Firefighters tackled mounds of snow while battling a fire that destroyed one trailer and damaged another in Penetanguishene on Friday.

Crews were called about multiple trailers on fire at a property on Tay Point Road late Friday morning.

When emergency services arrived, they found a travel trailer engulfed in flames. Mutual aid was called in for tanker support because of the property being in a non-hydrant area.

The fire chief says a large amount of snow surrounded the trailers making accessing them challenging. Firefighters trudged through deep, heavy snow to battle the flames.

Crews extinguished the fire, which had destroyed a 28-foot travel trailer and caused heat damage to a secondary trailer.

No injuries were reported.

The fire chief says the fire is considered suspicious. “The OFM (Ontario Fire Marshal) was notified of the incident due to finding on scene,” said Fire Chief Richard Renaud.

No further information was disclosed as the scene has now been turned over to provincial police to investigate.
