Firefighters rescue puppy from structure fire on Hwy. 64 near Noelville

CTV News

Highway 64 reopened Friday morning after firefighters extinguished a building fire.

The road had been closed between Montee Guerin Road and Sec Highway 535 in Noelville since around 3 a.m. It reopened around 10 a.m.

The French River Fire Department said on Facebook there were no injuries – and that they had rescued a scared puppy found inside the building.

“This week has been a challenging one for the French River Fire Department, with three structure fires requiring our full response,” the department said in a post on Facebook.

“Today, however, brought a special moment that truly warmed our hearts. During an overhaul sweep of a structure fire this morning, Lt. Woolridge stumbled upon an unexpected yet beautiful surprise—a little pug, nestled safely in a basket of clothes amidst the chaos.”

Thankfully, the tiny pug was unharmed.

“Shortly after, we had the joy of reuniting this courageous little guy with his owner,” the post said.

“Moments like these remind us why we do what we do. It’s not just about protecting buildings—it’s about preserving lives, big or small, and offering hope during moments of hardship.”

“We couldn’t be prouder of our team and the community we serve. Let this story serve as a reminder of resilience, hope, and the unwavering bond between people and their furry family members,” the post concluded.
