Sault multi-unit building fire injured three

A multi-unit building on Wellington Street East caught fire on Monday, causing significant fire damage and sending three residents to the hospital.

Fire service crews responded to a call shortly after 8 a.m. to a multi-unit residential fire in the 200 block of Wellington Street East, says a release. Smoke was seen coming from the second floor when crews arrived. Firefighters helped remove two residents from one of the units on the second floor. They were able to contain and extinguish the fire.

PUC Services, the Ontario Fire Marshal and the Red Cross also attended the scene.

Significant fire and smoke damage was caused to the second level of the dwelling. Three individuals were transported to the hospital.

The release did not include the cause of the fire. The incident remains under investigation.
