Firefighters responded to an Erie Avenue property shortly after 10 p.m. Monday
Damage is extensive after a fire ripped through a vacant building in downtown Niagara Falls Monday.
Firefighters and police were called to Erie Avenue near Queen Street shortly after 10 p.m. after receiving a report of a structure fire.
The commercial building sustained heavy damage and the fire also damaged an adjacent property, Niagara Falls Fire Department said.
The freezing temperatures and older construction of the building posed a challenge for firefighters, said Ben Trendle, the department's chief fire prevention officer.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the blaze remains under investigation by the fire department, Niagara Regional Police and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal.
