“I want to thank the Township of Huron-Kinloss mayor, council members, and the firefighters,” said newly-announced fire chief Shane Watson in a media release issued Oct. 17. “This is an honour and a privilege to serve the citizens of Huron-Kinloss as fire chief, having been a member of this community for years.”
According to the release, Watson has served as a volunteer firefighter for 10 years in addition to five years experience as a municipal fire prevention officer and community emergency management coordinator .
“Strengthening the overall safety of our community is always the priority and with the strong dedication from our administration, first responders, council, and community, we will be there from prevention through to recovery for any situation that may arise,” said Watson, who is set to step into the role on Oct. 30.
The position was vacated by Chris Cleave on Sept. 15 following his resignation after eight years of service.
“Overall, Shane brings the experience, education and professionalism that make him an asset for our fire and emergency services,” said Mayor Don Murray.
CAO Mary Rose Walden said she welcomes Watson to Huron-Kinloss’s senior leadership team.
“I look forward to working with him and I am confident that with his experience, he will be a perfect fit for our organization,” Walden said.
