MAPLETON – After its longtime fire chief retired recently, the Township of Mapleton is set to officially have an interim one.

The upcoming Tuesday Mapleton council meeting includes council consideration of a bylaw to appoint Brad Bigrigg as interim fire chief for the township’s fire and rescue department, taking effect retroactively on Aug. 1 and remaining in effect until this appointment is rescinded or a successor is found.

This wouldn’t be Bigrigg’s first time as an interim chief, recently holding the same position in Puslinch before the role officially became a shared role with Centre Wellington’s fire chief.

According to his LinkedIn, Bigrigg has past been interim fire chief in Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes and Wainfleet as well as deputy chief for Milton and Puslinch.

Previous fire chief Rick Richardson recently retired from the department after 39 years, 20 of those serving as fire chief.
