An interim fire chief will be overseeing the Adjala-Tosorontio fire department while the search continues to find a permanent person to fill the leadership role.
Colin Hanna, who was appointed as the interim fire chief at the July 12 council meeting, brings roughly three decades’ worth of "double hatter" experience working both as a volunteer and full-time firefighter. This includes 25 years as a volunteer firefighter in Bolton and 30 years as a full-time firefighter in Caledon.
Hanna retired from the Bolton department in 2017 after being promoted to deputy fire chief, and retired from Caledon as the deputy chief, where he managed operations, training and professional development.
“I was approached to assist the community through this transition period as the interim fire chief,” he said. “It is, after all, what firefighters do — answer the call.”
The township’s previous chief, Darryl Bailey, resigned from the department at the end of June after just over a year serving as chief, after accepting a new role at another fire department.
“I’ve had the great fortune to be in a place in my life where I could do so and I’m very humbled to be so entrusted,” Hanna added. “Moreover, the firefighters of Adjala-Tosorontio are a highly motivated, committed, well-trained and graciously welcoming group. Their demonstrated skills and abilities has certainly been impressive in my brief tenure and they are well led and trained. I hope to assist them forward in their journey as Adj-Tos firefighters serving this community.”
