Whitby firefighters will be knocking on thousands of doors across the community in an effort to share lifesaving safety information and tips with residents on working smoke alarms.

Whitby Fire and Emergency Services launches the annual Ever Alert program in July.

“Working smoke alarms save lives; it’s that simple. Test the alarm, change the battery, and practice your home escape plan. It can be that easy to save yourself and those that matter most," said Whitby Fire chief Mike Hickey.

Firefighters will remind residents to test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms every month using the test button on devices; to replace batteries twice a year — during daylight savings — or whenever the see a low battery warning; and to develop and practice a home fire escape plan that everyone in the home is aware of.
