KINGSTON — Firefighters rescued one man and two were taken to hospital following a house fire Sunday evening in the Inner Harbour neighbourhood.

Emergency services were summoned to 277 Rideau St. around 7:20 p.m.

Kingston Fire and Rescue said in a news release that they used a ladder truck to rescue one man from the roof at the back of the two-storey townhouse.
Frontenac Paramedics transported two people to the hospital.

Eleven people were displaced by the fire, which also damaged the neighbouring residence at 275 Rideau St.

Damage to the townhome is estimated at $350,000, Kingston Fire and Rescue stated.

The department’s Chief Fire Prevention Officer Ted Posadowski said Monday afternoon that the fire is being investigated by their department and by the Kingston Police.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was notified but did not attend.

Posadowski said the property was handed over to the owner at about 2 p.m. on Monday.

In mid-September, Kingston Police executed a search warrant at the address and laid drugs and weapons charges as a result. At the time of that search, police had called the home inhabitable and in a state of disrepair.

Anyone with information about the fire or may have witnessed it is asked to contact police at 613-549-4660, ext. 0.
