‘Heavy duty’: Here’s the new Maytag commercial that features Mississauga firefighters

Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services Chief Tim Beckett calls it a “great partnership.”

Maytag Canada’s latest commercial showing “heavy-duty training” features Mississauga firefighters, stating they depend on Maytag to handle their toughest loads.

“After a long day of intense heat, Mississauga firefighters trust Maytag to get out their worst stains,” according to the company’s online teaser. “That's why we build each washer and dryer to be as dependable as the firefighters who use them.”

The home and commercial appliance corporation, headquartered in Mississauga, supplies laundry appliances to the fire department.

Beckett said that, as a part of the City of Mississauga’s wellness initiative, residential-grade washing machines were to be installed in fire stations to support the health and safety of staff.

“The purchase of laundry machines for all stations would have added a pressure to the (Mississauga Fire and Emergency Services) budget and, as such, staff from the Business Planning and Sponsorship & Corporate Development Units conducted a review to ascertain whether a potential cost-savings sponsorship with a supplier existed.”

Whirlpool Canada, Maytag’s parent company, will be providing laundry equipment to the city at no cost “in the value-in-kind sponsorship agreement,” Beckett said.
