A group of teenagers is facing serious criminal charges following a significant structure fire that broke out on June 19, 2025, in Temiskaming Shores. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have launched an arson investigation into the incident.
A dramatic daytime blaze that tore through a building under renovation has led to an extensive police investigation and multiple youth arrests, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.
On Thursday, June 19 at 1:15 p.m., the Temiskaming OPP, along with the Temiskaming Shores Fire Department and the Temiskaming Emergency Medical Service responded to a significant structure fire at a building under renovation located on Lakeshore Road in Temiskaming Shores.
Emergency crews deployed heavy machinery to assist in extinguishing the blaze, and personnel remained on scene throughout the night to monitor conditions.
The Temiskaming OPP, in collaboration with the Temiskaming OPP Crime Unit and the North-East Forensic Identification Services have conducted an investigation which has resulted in several youths being charged.
A 16-year-old youth from Kirkland Lake has been charged with
- Arson -damage to property
- Mischief over $5,000
- Common nuisance - endangers life
- Break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence
A 16-year-old youth of Casey Township has been charged with
- Arson -damage to property
- Mischief over $5,000
- Common nuisance - endangers life
- Break, enter a place to commit an indictable offence
A 16-year-old youth from Englehart has been charged with
- Break, enter a place with intent to commit an indictable offence
A 16-year-old youth from Temiskaming Shores has been charged with
- Break, enter a place with the intent to commit an indictable offence
A 17-year-old youth from Harley Township has been charged with
- Break, enter a place with the intent to commit an indictable offence
All young offenders were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a future date in Haileybury.
The OPP say they will not be releasing the names of the accused under the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
