Four people left their home quickly as a fire spread to the cabinets of their kitchen in minutes, yesterday afternoon.
Firefighters were called around 2:12 p.m. on June 4 to a house in the Hunt Club East community, in the 3300 block of McCarthy Road. Teams were there in two minutes, but already, thick black smoke was growing inside the home.
The residents were already outside and told fire crews that everyone had left the building. Teams brought hoses towards the kitchen on the first floor and were met with “thick black smoke banked down to the floor with zero visibility conditions.”
When they were able to get through, they found flames had spread from the stove to the cupboards above. Another team searched the rest of the home to make sure no one else was inside.
Crews were able to douse the flames and opened the ceiling and walls around the stove to ensure there were no hot spots.
