An early morning blaze at a Muskoka lake cottage took firefighters nearly five hours to put out.

On Monday, just before 9 a.m., fire crews from Port Carling, Windermere, Raymond and Milford Bay were called to a reported structure fire located off of the lake.

Officials say, 16 firefighters flooded the scene along with five fire trucks.

Firefighters noted there were three structures nearby that needed protection from the fast spreading flames coming from the home. All three of the structures were saved in the midst of the blaze.

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damages are unknown at this time. Officials did note that the blaze was fully involved.

Crews say they spent five hours extinguishing the fire using water from the nearby lake.
