Halton youths invited to register for Blaze Fire Academy

Registration is now open for youth interested in participating in this year’s Blaze Fire Academy.

The joint initiative of the Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills fire departments is inviting Halton youths aged 15 to 18 to apply for a two-day immersive youth camp which offers first-hand experience in all aspects of the fire service.

According to organizers, Blaze Fire Academy offers training not only in fire suppression, but also in emergency communications, medical response, inspections and code enforcement, fire prevention and education.

The gender-inclusive camp will run Aug. 13 and 14. Online applications close on June 23 at 4 p.m.

Up to 24 participants will be selected for the camp, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fire Training Campus in Oakville.

Some of the team-based activities the participants will take part in, focus on:

  • Fire dispatch operations
  • Search and rescue missions
  • Auto extrication techniques
  • Medical response training
  • Forcible entre and roof operations
  • Fire prevention education
  • Fire service education and certification.
