International Firefighters' Day May 4, 2025

Sent on behalf of the Fire Marshal

Today we observe International Firefighters’ Day, a day to reflect on what is asked of the brave individuals who have dedicated their lives to keeping our communities safe from fire.

The dedication that every member of the fire service gives to their profession is parallel to virtually no other. From the training and education received before entering the field to dangers faced every day in the line of duty, the fire service is a highly technical, demanding, and involved profession.

This year, we have seen too many tragic fires that could have been prevented.  This is a reminder of the importance of fire prevention though public education and Fire Code enforcement, and ensuring that prevention is at the heart of every conversation we have with the public.

Firefighters, inspectors, public educators, fire investigators, engineers, training officers, mechanical officers, communications officers, call-takers, dispatchers, administrative personnel, and everyone with specialized roles, all play an important part.

All of you should take pride in knowing you are making Ontario a safer place to live.

I want to thank the fire service and everyone at the Office of Fire Marshal for everything you do to keep Ontario safe from fire. All Ontarians owe you our gratitude and value your dedication to public safety.

Sincerely,

Jon Pegg
Ontario Fire Marshal
