The Kirkland Lake Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment is investigating two separate structure fires and is seeking the public’s assistance in gathering more details about the incidents.

On March 2, 2025, between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., police and the Kirkland Lake Fire Department responded to two structure fires within the Town of Kirkland Lake.

The first fire occurred on Government Road East, followed by a second fire on McKelvie Avenue.

During the response to the Government Road East fire, first responders rescued one individual from an apartment complex.

“The person was transported to hospital by Kirkland Lake Emergency Medical Services with non-life-threatening injuries,” police said.

The investigation into the cause of the fires is ongoing, with assistance from various OPP teams and the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office. Police said that further details will be released to the public as they become available.

In the meantime, OPP are asking residents and business owners in the area to review any security camera footage from around the time of the incidents.

Police are also urging anyone with information about the fires or those responsible to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
