It was a busy night for Ottawa firefighters, with three fires in four hours across the city.
The Ottawa Fire Services received several 9-1-1 calls just before 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, reporting the sound of alarms and “possibly something happening in the basement” of a home on Sugar Creek Way in Orléans.
Officials say when crews arrived on the scene, they confirmed heavy smoke was coming from inside the structure.
“Firefighters initiated a fast attack and advanced a hose line inside the structure,” Ottawa Fire Services said in a release.
The fire was declared under control at 10:40 p.m.
At 11:39 p.m., a 9-1-1 caller told the Ottawa Fire Services that there were flames coming out of a home on Rockdale Road in Vars.
Flames were visible from the side of the home when firefighters arrived on the scene.
Because the fire was in an area of the city with no hydrants, firefighters used a water shuttle system to bring water to the scene from a nearby water source.
The fire was declared under control at 12:47 a.m.
Ottawa fire said at 1:13 a.m. Wednesday, a tenant of an apartment building on Springland Drive in the Riverside Park neighbourhood reported an “odour of something burning” in their unit and no power.
Firefighters discovered smoke on the second floor of the building when they arrived on scene.
“The fire was extinguished and contained to the area of origin before it could spread,” Ottawa fire said in a release.
Ottawa Fire Services investigators are searching for the causes of all three fires.
