No foul play suspected as fire in Norfolk destroys garage, damages food trucks

Penticton Herald

Authorities in Norfolk County are not  sure why an unoccupied garage in Nixon burned down Thursday, but foul  play has been ruled out.

Firefighters  and police headed to the hamlet northwest of Simcoe around 2:15 p.m.  after reports of a garage fire on Nixon Road near Windham Road 12.

No  one was home and the garage was unoccupied, the fire department said in  a media release. There were no reported injuries to residents or  firefighters.

The garage was destroyed, and the flames damaged several food trucks parked nearby.

The total reported damage is around $100,000. The property owner was insured, the fire department said.

“The  cause of this fire could not be determined due to the extent of damage  but is not considered suspicious,” fire prevention officer Cory  Armstrong-Smith said in the release.

Norfolk County Ontario Provincial Police have released the fire scene to the homeowner.
