A house has been left in ruins and several pets have died after an early morning fire in Kemptville.

North Grenville Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Randy Urslak says firefighters were called to the blaze at the two-story house at the corner of Barnes Street and Oxford Street just before five o’clock Tuesday morning.

He says crews discovered the front of the house fully involved in flames and it appeared that the blaze had started on the front porch.

Urslak says the fire had worked its way into the front of the house and was moving into the attic and entire home but crews were able to push it forward.

However, he says the house is a total loss.

He says it’s believed four pets, one dog and three cats, died in the fire and he estimates damage to be around $750,000.

Urslak says they will investigate to see if they can learn more about what happened.

“Just a small one because where the fire originated it’s very consumed so there’s not a lot there to work from but we will do an investigation with the insurance company.”

A Go Fund Me page has been set up for two of the residents in the house who were living in an upstairs apartment.
