This year’s annual Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society Conference and Firefighter Competition is being hosted by Oneida Nation of the Thames Fire Rescue.
The three-day event runs July 25 -27 and will attract Indigenous fire chiefs and firefighters from across the province.
It was last hosted at Oneida about 10 years ago.
The focus of the Ontario Native Fire Fighters Society is to lobby for and assist with the enhancement of First Nation Community fire prevention and protection.
Oneida Fire Chief Glenn Hill explains they were eager to host this year’s conference.
Hill runs down the agenda for the 37th annual conference and competition.
The event includes training sessions utilizing a sea container obtained for the occasion to replicate the interior of a structure.
That container will remain at Oneida for future training sessions, explains Hill.
Hill explains the games will be similar to those at the St. Thomas Fire Muster held in previous years in Pinafore Park.
The firefighter competition will be held this Saturday beginning at 1:30 p.m. at the Oneida Community Centre and the public is welcome to attend.
