Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a suspicious fire that damaged several new builds in Brant County early Sunday morning.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a structure fire at 5:30 a.m. at a property on Pottruff Road.

The fire had spread and damaged up to nine new homes before firefighters were able to stop the flames. Detectives discovered that construction workers had not yet installed the electrical wiring in the homes.

“As I was coming up the stairs, all I could see was an orange glow,” Eric Southward, a neighbour, told CHCH News. “I could feel the heat from the window, then I came outside and saw the fire about 50 feet above the roofline.”

Police say no one was injured in the fire and the homes were unoccupied.

The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation, with the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal being consulted.

Fire Chief Darren Watson estimates there to be over $2 million in damages.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call 1-888-310-1122.
