Halton police and the fire department were called to a Burlington neighbourhood after a stray firework set a car on fire on Canada Day (July 1).
Const. Jeff Dillon, Halton Police Media Officer, said that at about 10:30 p.m., the owner of a BMW sedan was lighting fireworks in a bucket in the area of New Street and Burloak Drive with the vehicle nearby when something went wrong.
“One got away, entered through the window and into the back seat of the vehicle sparking the fire,” said Dillon.
The fire spread to the point that the Burlington Fire Department had to be called to the scene to extinguish it.
The extent of the damage to the vehicle is unclear, however, Dillon said it needed to be towed from the area.
No one was injured during this incident.
The fire was ultimately deemed accidental, and no criminal charges have been laid, Dillon said.
