Enbridge Gas has shut off service to around 150 homes in Blackburn Hamlet after a gas leak Tuesday afternoon.
A social media post by Ottawa Fire Services said about 150 homes in the 3000 block of Innes Road were affected and would have their gas shut off while repairs were underway.
Firefighters went door-to-door to let affected residents know.
Enbridge Gas told CTV News it responded to the leak at approximately 11 a.m. after an eight inch thick pipeline was damaged by an excavator.
"Currently, gas is being monitored while venting, a repair plan has been developed and gas will be off within the hour," said Enbridge Gas spokesperson Natasha Carr in an email.
Enbridge said in an update(opens in a new tab) via social media at 5:20 p.m. that the area had been "made safe" and gas is now off.
"Repairs are underway. Once complete, technicians will go door-to-door to relight affected appliances," Enbridge said.
There is no word of any evacuations at this time or when the gas will be restored.
