Interested in serving your community? If so, the Cobourg Fire Department wants to hear from you.

The Town of Cobourg Fire Department is calling on area residents interested in joining its volunteer fire team and will be hosting a recruitment open house Nov. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Cobourg’s Fire Department is comprised of both full-time and volunteer firefighters. Although the position is referred to as volunteer, members of the volunteer fire crew receive remuneration for their service, noted the town in a recent release on recruitment efforts.

The demands and expectations placed on a volunteer firefighter are not unlike those placed on full-time staff. The job requires commitment, devotion, compassion and above all, a desire to serve your community, explained the town.

New volunteer fire recruits will participate in the department’s comprehensive training program, as well as any additional or ongoing training that the department receives, noted town officials.

Those who are interested in learning more can drop in to the upcoming recruitment open house on Nov. 18, 2023. Participants will meet fire Chief Ellard Beaven and Deputy Chief Kevin Ashfield and learn more about the role from members of Cobourg fire.

The open house will be hosted at the Cobourg Fire Hall, located at 111 Elgin St. E. To learn more about Cobourg’s volunteer fire service, visit the recruitment page at Cobourg.ca/fire.
