Annoucement from the Town of Caledon
The Town of Caledon is pleased to announce that Mr. David Forfar will be joining the Town of Caledon as Fire Chief effective December 9, 2013.
Mr. Forfar comes to the Town bringing over 30 years of experience in fire services. Mr. Forfar is well-known and respected for his strategic leadership and operational management skills in Fire and Emergency Services across Ontario. His credentials include Chief Fire Officer Designation (CFO), an Executive Diploma in Municipal Management and Certified Municipal Management (CMMIII) Designation from the Municipal Management Institute.
Most recently, Mr. Forfar served as Deputy Fire Chief for Barrie Fire and Emergency Service since 2007, where he was responsible for Training, Fire Prevention and Communication divisions. He established visionary goals for the fire department, by working with fire staff and all stakeholders across the city.
Prior to his time in the City of Barrie, in 2000, Mr. Forfar worked as Acting Platoon Chief then District Chief for Markham Fire and Emergency Service. Mr. Forfar started as a firefighter, moving to Fire Prevention, then Captain in the Markham fire service. He has received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee and Diamond Jubilee Medals for management practices and community service.
His background and skills developed throughout his tenure in the fire service will serve the Town of Caledon as a growing municipality.
David Forfar follows retiring Chief Terry Irwin, who has been with the Town in the role of Fire Chief since November 2012.

Caledon Fire and Emergency Service is dedicated to providing effective, efficient, safe and professional fire protection to the residents of Caledon. Caledon Fire and Emergency Services continues to grow and evolve from its roots when it was created during municipal restructuring in 1974, and is currently a composite Fire service with over 250 volunteer firefighters, 25 career firefighters and staff, working from nine stations plus headquarters. Caledon Fire maintains a fire safe community through effective, efficient, safe and prompt emergency incident response, and through the provision of Public Education and Community Outreach programs.
In 2013, Caledon Fire:
responded to approximately 2,800 emergency calls in 8.17 minutes on average
conducted approximately 2,000 building inspections and re-inspections
undertook approximately 6,300 hours (180 weeks) of additional Fire/ Rescue/ Medical Training
provide 75 firefighters with OFC training in Caledon (40 hours each)
recruited 24 volunteer throughout the year
Issued more than 1,500 Burn Permits.
