Kenneth Dwain Gunby
It is with great sadness that we announce that Ken lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Wednesday March 7, at Mariposa House Hospice, Severn Township, in his 71st year.
He is survived by his children Josh (Michelle) and Jessica, their mother Gayle and grandson, Jake, who he was such a proud Poppa of. Also mourning Ken are his siblings Heather Annis, Randy (Karen), Mike, Kim Galbraith (Jeff) and Steven as well as in-laws Leonard (Denise) Worrell, David and Kevin. Pre-deceased by his parents Dwain and Verlie Gunby, in-laws Henry and DeVere Worrell, siblings-in-law Ed, Cora, Billy and Katie.
He will also be remembered by his nieces, nephews, family and many friends.
Ken followed in his father’s footsteps and was a wood pattern maker for many years. At the age of 60, he decided to return to school and become a PSW. He truly loved his job and the people in his care, always showing kindness and compassion. He was a volunteer firefighter with Severn Township for many years, reaching the rank of District Fire Chief at Station #3, Coldwater. He was an active 38-year member of AA and was an inspiration to many. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, continually waging a war with the squirrels who constantly dug up his sunflower seeds; fishing and telling tales about the one who got away; and most of all, camping in the great outdoors with Josh.
At Ken’s request, a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to sincerely thank Bayshore Care Partners, Home Instead, Nurse Practitioner Joanne Matte and all the staff at Mariposa House Hospice for their care and support of Ken and his family during his journey. Words are not enough to express how thankful we are.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Mariposa House Hospice would be appreciated and may be made through the Coldwater Funeral Home.
