Two nights two fires in The County

Quinte News

Another night, another fire in Picton.

Firefighters were called out shortly before 8 o’clock Wednesday night to a house at 12 Inkerman Avenue, near Base 31 in Picton.

Fire officials say a neighbour noticed the exterior of the two-storey home on fire and alerted the residents.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames driven by stiff winds.

Luckily no one was injured. The damage is estimated at $300,000 and the cause is under investigation.

Tuesday night, fire caused significant damage to a house on Albert Street.

In both cases the homes did not have working smoke alarms.

County Fire Chief Chad Brown says it’s important that residents install smoke and carbon monoxide alarms for their own safety, adding that those who don’t could be subject to enforcement action.
