Two new wildfires in Northeast Region on Saturday

The fire hazard is moderate to high across the Northeast Region.

There were two new fires reported in the Northeast Region on Saturday.

North Bay 2 was confirmed late Saturday afternoon west of Little Lakes Road and north of Highway 17.

A FireRanger crew is working alongside local firefighters on the 0.1 hectare fire. Aerial fire suppression is also underway with two twin otters and a lead birddog aircraft working north of the highway.

The other fire, Haliburton 2, measures 0.1 of a hectare and is located two kilometres west of Morrison’s Landing, south of the Severn River.

A FireRanger crew is on site.

No Drone Zone: Be safe, stay clear of forest fires

Flying drones around forest fires is both dangerous and illegal. When you fly a drone near a forest fire, you can put the lives of pilots, firefighters and other emergency personnel at risk. Be safe, stay clear of forest fires.

Follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations  

Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services would like to remind the public to use caution when performing any outdoor burning. In order to dispose of yard waste and woody debris, we encourage you to use methods such as composting or using your local landfill. If you must burn, follow Ontario’s Outdoor Burning Regulations.  

Fires are to be ignited no sooner than two hours before sunset and are to be extinguished no later than two hours after sunrise. Always have tools/water adequate to contain the fire at the site. Know the rules for safe outdoor burning; consult the full set of Outdoor Burning Regulations.  

Report a Wildland Fire 

To report a wildland fire located north of the French and Mattawa rivers, please dial 310-FIRE. To report a wildland fire located south of the French or Mattawa Rivers, please dial 911.
