When it comes to life-saving, every little bit helps.
On Oct. 22, Milton Fire and Rescue Services (MFRS) received funding from Enbridge Gas to help purchase firefighting training materials. The funding is through the Safe Community Project Assist — a program with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council that supplements existing training for Ontario volunteer and composite fire departments in the communities where Enbridge Gas operates.
A total of $125,000 is being provided, to be split between 25 Ontario fire departments.
Chief Peter Gatto of MFRS said local firefighters are thankful for the support.
“Through Safe Community Project Assist, we are able to provide our firefighters with valuable training supports and materials aimed at enhancing skills and ultimately improving our ability to protect our growing community,” said Gatto.
MFRS is made up of full and part-time staff providing fire protection and emergency services.
The provided funds are used to purchase educational materials to assist in training firefighters in life-saving techniques.
Jon Pegg, with the Ontario Fire Marshal, said the right equipment can save lives.
“Fire departments train every single day and that’s why it’s important for them to have access to the right materials to keep their members and the public safe. Safe Community Project Assist helps departments afford some of these training tools and improves the ongoing learning that occurs across Ontario,” said Pegg.
