Firefighters and paramedics responded to a townhouse fire in Hamilton this morning, successfully reviving a boy who was found without vital signs.
The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a blaze shortly before 3 a.m., at 25 Towercrest Drive inside unit 31.
At the time of arrival, fire crew reported seeing smoke and visible flames coming from the three-storey home.
A bystander informed firefighters of a possibility that a child was trapped inside the home.
Firefighters say a 9-year-old boy was found unresponsive on the upper level of the unit and was immediately taken outside.
Paramedics attended to the child, initiating life saving measures including CPR and were able to resuscitate him. Subsequently, the boy was transported to McMaster hospital for further treatment. It remains unclear whether the boy sustained any physical injuries and what his current condition is.
Emergency crew have not disclosed which part of the house the fire broke out or the number occupants that were inside.
Firefighters confirmed that the fire was contained and did not spread to other units.
According to firefighters, “the fire has now been extinguished.”
The damages to the unit are estimated to be $350,000.
The Ontario Fire Marshal has been contacted and will investigate the cause of the fire.
