Four Timmins residents are displaced after an overnight fire destroyed the roof of a multi-unit residential building on Riverside Drive.
The Timmins Fire Department received a call at around 10 p.m. Wednesday, said deputy chief Scott Atkinson, with crews fully extinguishing the fire at around 3 a.m.
Atkinson said all occupants were unharmed, including three cats, three rabbits and a smattering of hamsters.
“(The) residential building had two apartments in it (and) everybody got out safe,” Atkinson said.
“Our fire prevention division, right now, is actually doing the investigation and trying to determine what happened, what caused it and why it spread so fast.”
Atkinson said the cause could be anything from an electrical issue to a lit candle — all crews know right now is that the fire started in the attic.
That’s where the bulk of the fire damage is located, he said, along with water and smoke damage to the rest of the building.
