Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) successfully rescued a local man, who attempted to climb the rock cliffs near Alexandra Bridge this past Saturday.
Around 1:25 p.m., Ottawa police alerted the fire department of a resident stuck on a cliff, who climbed up from below the bridge towards the Samuel de Champlain statue, said crews in a message on X.
The Rope Rescue Team dispatched immediately, and set up at the scene upon arrival.
According to OFS, it was confirmed the resident was approximately 15 feet down the cliff and was unable to return to safety.
The Rope Rescue Team proceeded to lower a rescuer by rope over the cliff and down to the resident, said Ottawa Fire Services.
The rescuers were able to secure the man into a harness and he was returned to safety at approximately 2:15 p.m.
Once the rescue was complete, Ottawa Police Service (OPS) took control of the scene.
In an email from OPS, Ottawa police said they attended to a male resident who was stuck on the cliff of Nepean Point at approximately 1:15 p.m. on August 31st.
“The individual was safely retrieved and was issued two warnings under the Trespass to Property Act by Ottawa Police Service,” they added.
