Gabriel, a sixth grader from Sir Albert Love Catholic School, is Oshawa’s 2024 Junior Fire Chief.
Oshawa Fire Services made the announcement at his school assembly Thursday in front of his teachers and fellow students.
The Junior Fire Chief contest asked applicants to submit a video showing the importance of smoke alarms and a home escape plan.
The video was shown during the assembly.
Gabriel won a laptop, bicycle, a tour of Oshawa Fire headquarters, McDonald’s dinner for the family and a ride in a fire truck.
“Congratulations to Gabriel on becoming Oshawa’s Junior Fire Chief!” said Mayor Dan Carter. “The Junior Fire Chief contest is a fantastic way to engage our youth in thinking about fire safety. By learning and teaching others, Gabriel is helping to ensure a safer future for everyone.”
