One person hospitalized after fire at Orillia home

CTV News

The Ontario Fire Marshal is being called in after a Thursday afternoon fire at an Orillia residence that left one tenant hospitalized.

Emergency responders received a call shortly before 3 p.m. about smoke coming from a home on Westmount Dr. S. The residence had multiple tenants, who all escaped except for one.

Firefighters had to break into one unit, where they found a man unconscious. After being treated outside with oxygen, he resumed consciousness and was transported to hospital.

Sadly, the injured tenant's dog was found deceased inside the unit.

According to the fire chief, it took 14 firefighters to handle the situation. The two who rescued the man are both newer in their positions, with one on his very first shift.

There's no word on the cause of the fire.
