The Norfolk County Fire Department will have access to a state-of-the-art mobile live training unit designed to simulate realistic fire scenarios.
The unit is designed to “significantly improve the department’s ability to provide hands-on firefighter training,” said a new release issued by Norfolk County. “It is part of the province’s plan to expand and modernize firefighter training, bringing high-quality, hands-on instruction to fire services without dedicated training facilities.”
The unit will be in Norfolk from May 31 to June 5.
“This training centre provides our firefighters with simulated fire conditions in a safe environment, significantly enhancing their preparedness for real-world emergencies,” said fire Chief Gord Stilwell. “Over 100 of our firefighters will participate in training evolutions in the unit during its stay in Norfolk County. This advanced training tool helps us maintain the highest standards in firefighting ad emergency response.”
The mobile live fire training unit can simulate pre-flashover conditions, kitchen and basement fires and second-storey fires requiring a ladder. It also uses realistic props, such as a sprinkler system and a simulated living room with a couch.
The unit will be used for ongoing training and certification programs, “benefiting both new recruits and veteran firefighters,” said Stilwell.
“It bridges the gap between classroom learning and real-life application, fostering greater confidence and competence among our personnel.”
