Man dies after being rescued from Ottawa River

CTV News

A man has died after being rescued from the Ottawa River in Ottawa’s west end.

Emergency crews responded to a call from a staff member at the nearby Britannia Yacht Club just after 10 a.m. for a person “appearing to be in distress” at the Deschenes Rapids.

“The individual was transported to hospital by paramedics in life-threatening condition,” Ottawa police said in a statement to CTV News Ottawa. “They have since been pronounced deceased.”

Ottawa Fire Services say they found the person submerged in the water halfway between the shore and a capsized boat from another water rescue in the Deschenes Rapids last week. The person was stuck in a rope that was used to attach the capsized boat to the shore.

Ottawa Paramedics performed CPR with firefighters and the person was taken to hospital.

The person's identity has not been released.

Ottawa police continue to investigate.

Earlier this month, Ottawa Fire Services rescued a kayaker and three boaters in the same area.
