A fuel leak was contained in Ottawa’s west end this weekend.
Around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 8, Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) responded to Highway 417 and Bayshore Drive after several 9-1-1 callers reported a transport truck leaking fuel at the side of the highway.
Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed a two-inch hole in the 100 gallon diesel tank on the 53-foot trailer that is used to power the refrigeration system.
The OFS HazMat team was dispatched to the scene.
HazMat Technicians set up a diking system to control the movement of the fuel and then pumped the fuel into containers.
An absorbent was spread on the remaining fuel, and the transport truck was towed from the scene shortly before 2 p.m.
The scene was left in control of the OPP.
