Arran-Elderslie’s fire department is getting some grant money to distribute smoke alarms to the community.
Fire Chief Steve Tiernan says the township, which includes the villages of Paisley, Tara and Chesley has been chosen as one of the 17 fire departments out of 437 in Ontario to receive the KIDDE Smoke Alarm grant along with the assistance of the Fire Marshall’s Public Fire Safety Council.
“We are thrilled to be chosen and distribute these invaluable Smoke Alarms where needed in our community of Arran-Elderslie,” says Tiernan.
He says throughout the year, these life saving alarms will be distributed across the Municipality of Arran-Elderslie.
Tiernan adds, “We cannot thank Kidde Canada and the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council for their continued support in helping save lives in Ontario.”
“As always we want everyone to check their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms monthly and practice their fire escape plan,” said the Chief also.
The Ontario government says on its website, “Most fatal fires occur at night when people are asleep. Often, victims never wake up. Working smoke alarms give you the precious time you need to escape a fire. By law, every home in Ontario must have a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.”
