Firefighters extricate three across two collisions Friday morning

Ottawa Fire Services responded to two serious collisions resulting in the extrication of three people early Friday morning.

Shortly after 3 a.m., OFS received a call from Ottawa Paramedic Service about a tractor trailer that had rolled over into the median.

Firefighters responded to the scene at Highway 416 northbound and West Hunt Club Road to find the trailer carrying a full load of hot asphalt flipped on its side with the driver side landing on the centre median. The driver was still in the vehicle and the hos asphalt had spilled into the grass.

Firefighters quickly stabilized the vehicle and advanced a precautionary house line. Specialized tools were used to safely remove the driver. The extrication was complete at 4:54 a.m.

Firefighters de-energized the tractor trailer and spread absorbent on the leaking fluid before leaving the scene in control of the OPP East Region.

Ottawa Paramedics say the driver was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

n the meantime, another team of firefighters responded to a call from Ottawa Police around 4:15 a.m. reporting a vehicle flipped on its side at the 4000 block of Rideau Valley Drive.

Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed the single vehicle involved had landed on the driver side about 10 metres off the road in a field.

Responders confirmed there were two occupants trapped inside the vehicle.

Firefighters stabilized the vehicle and advanced a precautionary hose line before removing the windshield and part of the roof to safely extricate the occupants.

Ottawa Paramedics say the driver, an adult female, was transported to hospital in serious but stable condition. The passenger, an adult male, sustained miinor injuries and was released at the scene.

Prior to clearing the scene, firefighters disconnected the battery of the vehicle.

Ottawa Police Service is investigating.
