On Tuesday night (June 11), the South Huron Fire Department took to the streets of local towns, collecting curbside donations for the Exeter Community Food Bank in what has become the food bank’s largest annual donation event.
This tradition, now over three decades old, saw many families set up lawn chairs in their front yards, watching fire trucks navigate the neighborhoods, their sirens echoing through Exeter.
Laurie Clapp, Manager of the Exeter Community Food Bank, spoke about the overwhelming volume of donations they received with the assistance of the fire department.
In addition to physical donations, the community has also been contributing through financial gifts, which Clapp noted will significantly help the food bank’s efforts.
Jeff Musser, District Fire Chief, reflected on the community’s consistent support over the years.
Musser highlighted the acute need in the community, which has been particularly pressing this year – he said that although all of the volunteer firefighters have busy lives, they always prioritize the food drive.
