Halton police said they suspect arson after fire broke out at an abandoned home in Burlington on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The Burlington Fire Department was called to 292 Plains Rd. E., at around 12:15 a.m., after a passerby reported that the building was on fire, said Const. Ryan Anderson, Halton Police media officer.
Burlington Fire Platoon Chief Chad Hammer said smoke and flames could be seen coming from the building when fire crews arrived on the scene.
“Crews initiated a fire response from the exterior and were successful in knocking down the fire very quickly,” he said.
“As this was an abandoned, boarded-up two-storey building, an interior primary search was conducted when it was safe to enter the structure. There was nothing found within the building.”
Hammer said the fire, which was contained to a living room on the main floor, was extinguished by 12:41 a.m.
Damage to the structure is estimated at around $100,000.
A total of 26 firefighters and eight emergency vehicles attended the scene.
No one was injured during this incident.
Hammer said arson is suspected and the Ontario Office of the Fire Marshal has been contacted.
