A fast-moving wildfire tore through roughly a half hectare near Riley Lake Monday afternoon, destroying structures and vehicles, according to Gravenhurst Fire Department.
Fire crews were called after the blaze broke out in a wildland area east of Gravenhurst. Officials say the flames spread quickly, fueled by dry conditions and wind.
While the department says several small structures, including two cabins a camper trailer and two vehicles were lost to the fire, officials confirmed no injuries were reported.
More than two dozen firefighters battled the flames for around four hours. The damages are estimated to be in the $150,000 range.
Officials say the fire was “human-caused.”
The incident prompted a reminder from fire officials to the public to be cautious with outdoor burning.
On Tuesday, the fire danger rating was moved to high, meaning no daytime burning. Officials also say it’s crucial to stay with your fire at all times, have tools readily available to put out the flames, and ensure the fire is completely extinguished and cool to the touch before leaving it.
