Dexter Hupe Appointed as Acting Fire Chief

City of Kenora

The City has appointed Dexter Hupe as Kenora Fire and Emergency Services Acting Fire Chief effective September 23, after receiving the resignation of Chief David Pratt.

Under Chief Pratt’s leadership, Kenora Fire and Emergency Services has replaced its SCBA equipment, adopted a Community Risk Assessment and Fire Master Plan, modernized levels of service for the fire service, established a reserve for fire fleet replacement, and significantly advanced the City’s emergency management plan and the forthcoming update to our Establishing and Regulating Bylaw.

CAO Kyle Attanasio states: “Working with Chief Pratt has been a privilege. Under his leadership, with the support of SLT and Council, our fire department has accomplished significant goals and achievements during the Chief’s tenure. I am confident that these initiatives will continue to be implemented providing clear direction on service delivery for many years to come.”

“Fire and Emergency Services provide so many important services to everyone that live, works and plays in the City of Kenora. Staff have continually demonstrated their knowledge and skills in the delivery of this highly efficient and effective service, it was an honour to lead this team” said Pratt.

The City will undertake a fulsome recruitment for our next Chief and Acting Chief Hupe will assume the acting role until a replacement can be found.  We are thankful for the perspective and leadership Chief Pratt brought to the City during his tenure and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
