The City of Pickering is paying tribute to a local firefighter for his demonstration of courage.
Pickering Fire Services Training Officer Jesse Beaudrow demonstrated his bravery when he risked his life to save others in a fiery crash last September.
Beaudrow recently received the Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery, the province’s highest honour for heroism, and Mayor Kevin Ashe and Pickering councillors, along with Fire Chief Steve Boyd, honoured Beaudrow at the June 24 council meeting.
While off duty, Beaudrow came across a fiery head-on collision involving two vehicles and, with quick thinking, used a fire extinguisher to slow the intense flames. He was able to rescue two badly injured occupants from a burning vehicle before it became fully engulfed.
The Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery was created in 1976 and pays tribute to firefighters who have gone above and beyond to protect and serve their communities. Similar awards are handed out to police officers as well.
