Following an extensive recruitment process, the City of Brampton is pleased to announce the appointment of Nick Ruller as the new Fire Chief. The decision was confirmed at today’s City Council meeting with the official appointment by-law passed in accordance with Section 6 of the Fire Protection and Prevention Act, 1997.

Mr. Ruller, who has served as the Acting Deputy Fire Chief for Brampton since 2022, brings over 20 years of experience in Fire and Emergency Services, with the last seven years in leadership roles. Before joining Brampton, he served as Fire Chief for Niagara-on-the-Lake and held various positions in other municipalities, including the City of Toronto.
He holds a Master of Arts in Leadership from the University of Guelph, along with several specialized certificates, including an Advanced Certificate in Public Administration from Toronto Metropolitan University, a Diversity and Inclusion Certificate from Cornell University and a Graduate Certificate in Community Preparedness and Disaster Management from Chapel Hill. He also completed the Independent Study Program through the Federal Emergency Management Institute, U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
In addition to his professional qualifications, Mr. Ruller is dedicated to giving back to his community, serving as a volunteer firefighter and softball coach. His appointment reflects his deep commitment to public safety and his vast expertise across various sectors of fire services.
