Central York Fire Services hosts Annual Open House Sept. 21

For more than 20 years, Central York Fire Services has been providing fire protection, prevention and emergency services in Newmarket and Aurora.

Saturday’s open house event marks the two-year anniversary of the opening of Fire Station 4-5, which houses two fire crews, the administrative offices and the fire services’ training division.

This is the first fire station jointly built by the Town of Aurora and the Town of Newmarket, since the towns consolidated their fire services in 2002.

What: Central York Fire Services hosts Annual Open House

When: Saturday, Sept. 21 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Live firefighter demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Where: Station 4-5 (300 Earl Stewart Dr., Aurora).

Why: It is an opportunity to get to know your local fire department and learn more about simple but important actions everyone can take to prevent fires at home. The event is in recognition of Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6 -12) which focuses on the importance of having working smoke alarms in homes.

Activities: Enjoy the Tim Hortons Express Train, arts and crafts, prizes, games, Sparky the Fire Dog, interactive fire safety activities, demonstrations and more. 

Food: Stop by for morning coffee and donuts and hot dogs.

New: CYFS is offering a Dunk Tank for Good. Purchase three balls for $5 with all proceeds donated to the Hawkins-Gignac Foundation which aims to prevent carbon monoxide tragedies.
