Caledon residents can meet their local first responders and learn how to prepare for an emergency at a special open house being held at the fire station in Bolton (14002 Highway 50) on May 8 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Community safety partners including the OPP will also be at the event marking Emergency Preparedness Week, which runs from May 4 to 10.

“Emergencies can happen at any time and without warning. Be ready. With a little preparation, you can respond quickly to help yourself and others,” Caledon Fire and Emergency Services stated on its website.

Door prizes will be distributed every hour at the special event, which is open to residents of all ages.

First responders also held wildfire preparedness open houses at several local fire stations (in Alton, Inglewood, Caledon East and Caledon Village) on Saturday, May 3, to educate residents on how to keep their property safe.

“Grass fires can happen quickly. Protect your home and loved ones by clearing your yard leaves and debris. Remember to rake under decks and porches,” Caledon Fire noted in a post on X.

Emergency Preparedness Week is an annual national awareness initiative that encourages all Canadians to understand the risks in their area and learn what actions can be taken to protect themselves and their household.
