Firefighters were called early this morning to a multi-unit structure near the University of Ottawa.
At about 6:27 a.m. a 9-1-1 call reported smoke and flames at the back of a two-storey single-family building in the 100 block of Daly Avenue. Three minutes after being dispatched, crews arrived on scene and confirmed smoke and flames on an exterior wall.
The fire travelled inside the walls of the structure and crews began extinguishing flames.
An OC Transpo bus was sent to the scene to shelter the approximately 20 residents who had to evacuate.
Crews opened up parts of the walls to locate and douse the flames. By 7:45 a.m. the fire was under control.
No occupants were found inside the structure and officials then worked to ventilate the area using high-pressurized fans.
Victim Assistance was sent to the scene to help the approximately 15 residents that are displaced.
