Veteran firefighter appointed deputy chief in East Gwillimbury

Steven Cook has been appointed deputy chief of operations of East Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Service.

Cook joined the fire service as a paid on-call firefighter in May 2004 and was later hired full time and promoted to the rank of captain in July 2012, a news release stated. Prior to joining East Gwillimbury fire service full time, he was a full-time firefighter in Georgina. Cook was appointed to the role of acting deputy chief with East Gwillimbury fire service in early 2024.

"Throughout his fire service career, Deputy Cook has demonstrated exceptional leadership and a commitment to serving his community and colleagues," the fire service stated. "He is a valued and respected colleague who focuses on supporting the East Gwillimbury team and making EGFES a leader in the delivery of fire protection service."

Cook has lived locally for many years and comes with a wealth of knowledge in emergency management, fire education and operational response, the fire service said.

He is a licensed mechanic, bringing high value to fleet oversight and equipment maintenance. Cook has completed the company officer program through the Ontario Fire College.
